 The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run 2025 took place on Sunday, May 4 turning the streets of Birmingham into a lively festival of running and community. About 16,000 people took part in the sold-out event, running either the 10K or half marathon. The race began at Centenary Square and ended at Smithfield with runners passing famous places around the city.

There was a fun and exciting mood all day. Music played along the route, crowds cheered and friends and families supported the runners. Many runners in the Birmingham Half Marathon wore creative costumes, including a leprechaun, Darth Vader and even people dressed as bin bags adding fun and a message about the environment.

A number of important guests attended the Birmingham Half Marathon 2025 to show their support for the runners and the wider community. Among them were the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Ken Wood who welcomed participants at the start line and praised the city’s commitment to health and wellbeing. Also present was television personality Mark Rhodes, a familiar face to many families who encouraged runners and took time to engage with spectators. Sports presenter Amber Sandhu brought her energy and enthusiasm to the event, helping to capture the excitement of the day for local media.

One of the most inspiring moments came from the Bishop of Birmingham, Dr. Michael Volland. After completing his official duties at the start of the race, he didn’t simply step back he stepped forward onto the course. An accomplished ultramarathon runner himself, Bishop Volland joined the half marathon and ran alongside participants embodying the event’s spirit of determination, inclusion and community connection.

The Birmingham Half Marathon 2025 was more than just a race, it was a celebration of the city’s vibrant spirit. With live music, cheering crowds and thousands of determined runners, the event reflected Birmingham’s character as a friendly, energetic and health-conscious city. The day was filled with joyful moments, personal achievements and a strong sense of unity. From elite athletes to first-time runners, everyone contributed to a memorable occasion that highlighted the best of what Birmingham has to offer.
