The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the recall on May 2, 2025 and the affected cans have a “Best if Used By” date of February 17, 2028 on the bottom. The labeling error can have severe health implications for consumers allergic to soy, says the FDA, Houston Chronicle.
The affected baked beans were sold in 23 states across the U.S. through leading national retailers including Walmart, Amazon, Kroger, Safeway, Hy-Vee, Meijer, Associated Wholesale Grocers and K-VA-T Food Stores. The US Sun adds that the widespread distribution makes it even more critical for people to check their pantries.
Soy is one of the FDA’s nine declared allergens and the presence of undeclared soy in food products can result in severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis. There have been no reported illnesses or adverse effects as of the date of the recall, states the FDA.
